On the issues: City Council candidates weigh in on biggest issues

Ballots for the April 6 municipal election will soon be arriving and The Daily Sentinel this week has been covering the city council races that voters will be deciding. Profiles of the eight candidates running for City Council can be found online at gjsentinel.com along with their complete answers to questions asked by The Daily Sentinel. Included in those surveys to candidates were questions about some of the biggest issues currently facing the city. Should Grand Junction buy Glacier Ice Arena? What about converting downtown parking to a plaza or a community center at Lincoln Park? The Daily Sentinel tried to pin candidates down on a yes/no answer, but allowed room for elaboration.

La Junta street repairs continue, pipe replacement plan coming together

LA Junta Tribune Some street projects are under way while park projects idle as the city waits for warmer weather to become the norm, city manager Rick Klein reported at the Monday La Junta City Council meeting. The north corner of 10th St. and Barnes Avenue underwent a curb and gutter replacement that improved that gutter s ability to intake water. The project included re-pouring of cement for the curb and gutter. The city and county split the costs for the gutter repairs. The site sits before the location of the planned intergenerational Brick and Tile Park that the city secured around $1 million in grant funds for.

Construction of 30th Street and Colorado Avenue Bicycle and Pedestrian Underpasses Begins March 1 Work to require lane closures over next 18 months   Beginning March 1 and lasting for approximately 18 months, travelers can anticipate delays at the 30th Street and Colorado Avenue intersection as crews construct two new bicycle and pedestrian underpasses and install additional intersection safety enhancements. Traffic impacts will vary by phase of work but will generally require traffic on 30th Street and Colorado Avenue to be reduced to one lane of travel in each direction near the intersection with left-turning lanes remaining open. Vehicles are encouraged to seek alternative routes during this time. The Bound and Buff Bus transit routes will remain active during construction, but transit stop locations may be temporarily relocated for safe access.
