LOWVILLE â The talent show didnât have to compete with the roar of tractor engines at the Lewis County Fairgrounds this year.
Thatâs because organizers decided to host the annual talent competition on the eve of the 200th edition of the fairâs opening day.
âWe usually are fighting with the tractor pull for sound since they occur at the same time,â said Rachel Lisk, the Lewis County Fair manager.
The talent show was moved to Monday before the opening ceremony, which will be held Tuesday. It was moved from inside to out on the bandstand to let the participants shine without other events causing potential disruptions and for more space due to COVID-19 guidelines during the planning phase of the fair.
LOWVILLE â The Lewis County Fair is known locally as one big reunion â for family members, classmates, neighbors, everyone â and the 200th edition is not likely to be an exception.
Joining in an anniversary celebration of their own will be the Oak Ridge Boys, who will be performing at the grandstand at 7:30 p.m. Friday as part of their 40th anniversary celebration for their iconic song, âElvira.â
The most significant change to the fairâs festivities this year is a free pre-fair talent show to be held at 6 Monday night on the grandstand stage.
By moving the event to a different day, Fair Manager Rachel Lisk said it eliminates the noise competition with the tractor pull event that has been an issue in the past.
