COLUMBUS, Ohio The indictment of the white Ohio police officer who shot and killed Andre Hill, a Black man, was cheered by Hill’s family, even as data shows and experts conclude that the next step securing a conviction will be difficult, if not impossible.

Officials in Ohio’s biggest city plan to invest nearly $5 million in new body-worn cameras after the deadly police shootings of Black men Andre Hill and Casey Goodson Jr. weeks apart last month.
Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther announced the push for the next-generation police gear Thursday after saying last month he was “horrified” by what happened to Hill.
“While many of us woke up this morning with a renewed sense of purpose and optimism, a new year and a new president does not erase the past nor ease the pain felt by those who loved Casey Goodson Jr. and Andre Hill,” Ginther said Thursday.
