Royal Ontario Museum announces major gift in support of Korean art and culture at the museum First ever curatorship of Korean art & culture in Canada announced as part of a multi-year partnership. TORONTO .-The Royal Ontario Museum announced a landmark partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea (MCST). The five-year agreement will provide $1 million in funding to support a Curator of Korean Art & Culture ─ a first at any museum in Canada ─ as well as funds for new research and public programming. The agreement was signed on behalf of the Royal Ontario Museum by Josh Basseches, Director & CEO, and on behalf of the MCST by Sungeun Lee, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre Canada in Ottawa.

Korean Speech, Writing Contest Produces Winners

Ayodele Precious and Joy Elo Ossai have emerged winners of the 2021 Korean Speech and Writing Contest. The contest, which was held online, was organised by the Korean Cultural Centre of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. Muizat Kehinde Ayoola and Faith Iyanuoluwa Aiyedogbon placed second and third respectively in the speech making category, while Onyekachi Anthony Ikoku and Deborah Oluwabukola Adedeji trailed Ossai in the writing contest. The Korean speech and writing competition is an annual event for students of Korean Language. The competition assists language students to improve their communication and writing skills in Korean Language. The winner of the speaking category stands a chance to visit Korea on an all-expense paid trip. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both the entry submissions and award ceremony for this year were done online. Students for the speaking category submitted their videos by email, just as those for writing competition sent their scripts via email.

2021 Pinoy K-Pop Star Transcend, KCC PH s 10th anniversary set – Manila Bulletin

The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines has set different events for the month of July.  After taking a break last year due to the pandemic, the Philippines’ biggest K-pop competition is back this year through the “2021 Pinoy K-pop Star Transcend.”  It will be different this year as the “2021 Pinoy K-Pop Star Transcend,” the Philippine finals for the 2021 K-pop World Festival, will be held online and will focus only on dance performances based on the decision of 2021 K-Pop World Festival organizers.  The “2021 Pinoy K-pop Star Transcend” will be held live on KCC’s YouTube channel on July 30. Interested participants may send their application until July 11. The announcement of finalists will be on July 14, which is also the start of the online voting.
