Nonprofit raises thousands of dollars to benefit cancer patients, their families

The pandemic has proven challenging for nonprofits raising funds for their missions, but that didn’t stop an organization in Southwest Florida.
Thousands of dollars will go to help cancer patients and their families in Collier County thanks to the Cancer Alliance of Naples event, “Keep on Truckin, ” at Celebration Park in East Naples Monday.
With an auction, entertainment, food and drinks, donations poured in both virtually and in person to the Cancer Alliance of Naples.
Executive Director Jodi Bisogno told us the money is a huge help to those struggling to pay for basic essentials while battling treatment.

Fly north for COVID shots?
Something is not right with the vaccine rollout in Southwest Florida. At the ages of 81 and 75, we surely qualify, yet we find that the only vaccine available is from a grocery store where access is through an online lottery-like signup system.
Florida gets high marks for its senior care facilities but somehow is missing the boat for us seniors at home. For several weeks, we have been getting emails from our health organization back in Illinois asking when we would like to schedule a vaccine appointment. Why is Florida seemingly so far behind in providing a similar level of medical service?

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina has been a family-friendly destination for generations, and many visitors who now have children remember visiting the island as children themselves, spending afternoons on the docks with their grandparents or unfettered playtime at the old tree house playground in Sea Pines. This year, as they return, they ll realize that Hilton Head Island has completed a playground present of a project that welcomes the next generation to make memories of their own.
Lowcountry Celebration Park, a 10-acre site off Pope Avenue near the Coligny Beach parking lot, was completed in December of 2020 and features a playground, as well as an open pavilion and lawn, walkways that welcome after dusk with their subtly lit details, and even a Children s Sandbox Museum, which offers learning and interactive fun even on a rainy day.
