KVRR Local News
The need may never have been greater.
February 9, 2021
The folks at the region’s many nonprofits are hoping our hearts are a little bit bigger than usual this year.
Because while Giving Hearts Day is typically one of our top times for charitable giving in the region, it’s also happening this time around after nearly an entire year’s worth of recession.
That’s hitting the region’s nonprofits hard.
So, because your pocketbook may be among the many in the Red River Valley that are thinner this year, there are new ways to give.
For the first time, the folks at the Dakota Medical Foundation are offering us a way for would-be donors to give our time, instead of our money.
Letter: BLC–Crookston fundraising for a new van
Submitted by Benedictine Living Community Crookston
Crookston Times
Dear Benedictine Living Community (Villa & SUMMIT) ambassadors, friends, supporters:
We’ve been graced with another year to continue our mission of providing trusted care and service. We are incredibly grateful to have started it out by administering round one of the vaccination protocol to our residents, tenants and associates.
As the wheels of our care continue in motion to promote our residents and tenants to live fully and live well, the wheels on our current multipurpose van/little bus are going round and round, but not like they used to when it was new, 20+ years ago.
How would Scott look with red hair? What is Giving Hearts Day? Pat & Amber join What s On Your Mind: Leftovers. The after the show show.
Listen to What s on Your Mind weekdays from 8:30-11:00 a.m. on AM 1100, AM 1090, FM 92.7, AM 970, FM 93.1, & AM 550 or listen live on our mobile app from the App Store and Google Play.

Don Larsen
Martin Donald, “Don”, Larsen, 91, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 24, 2021, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo.
Born in Kindred to Roger and Esther (Soroos) Larsen, the oldest of three children, his family moved to Casselton in 1937 when Roger purchased the Federated Store. After graduating from Central Cass High School in 1947, Don attended the University of North Dakota where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, completed a degree in accounting and developed a love of UND ice hockey.
Upon graduation from UND, he earned a commission in the US Air Force and was stationed at Mountain Home, Idaho. Due to the signing of Korean War armistice agreement, Don narrowly escaped deployment and later received a promotion to Captain upon discharge. He again fulfilled his duty to his country by later serving in the honor guard at many military funerals.
