SANDWICH A new budget, a commercial plastic water bottle ban and a request to help restore a historic meetinghouse are among the items that passed muster with town meeting voters Monday.
Just over 200 residents showed up to this year s spring session, held Monday night in the Sandwich High School gymnasium. COVID-19 safety measures were in place, including mask-wearing and social distancing.
Fiscal 2022 budget
Voters approved an $82,431,491 budget for the coming fiscal year, which starts July 1.
Town Administrator George Bud Dunham said town officials adopted an approach of “patience, prudence and, most importantly, flexibility in preparing the new budget, which represents about a 3% increase over the current fiscal year.
The celebrations may again be small and largely at home this year, but many people still crave Mexican-style food to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
At least that’s what the large number of customers at local restaurants on May 5 every year have been indicating to staffers.
“I think last year, (Cinco de Mayo) was our busiest day of the year,” says Chris Tucker, owner of Burrito Bistro restaurants in Hyannis and Mashpee. “I expect it’s going to be no different this year.”
“We’re slammed on Cinco de Mayo,” says Lavon Trottier, manager at Two Brothers Pizza and Mexican in Sandwich. “The cars are lined up down to the other store” in the Cotuit Road plaza.
FALMOUTH A proposal is before the Planning Board to convert an almost 100-year old golf course in Hatchville into a solar farm.
In a letter read into the record at the Planning Board s Feb. 23 meeting, David Friel, owner of Cape Cod Country Club on Theatre Drive, cited less business over the last decade has led him to pursue alternate uses for the property.
“The expansion of golf courses on the Cape over the past decade or two and the reduction in the number of golfers nationwide has forced me, from a financial viability standpoint, to consider other land use options for the Cape Cod Country Club,” he said.
