An 18-year-old student athlete at Flagler Palm Coast High School was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Sunday while on the job delivering pizza in western Flagler County.
Nehemiah Gilyard, a junior who lived in Bunnell, competed on the Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs track and field team and the football team, according to a Facebook post from his track coach Dave Halliday.
“It is with great sadness and pain in my heart that I am writing this post,” Halliday said.
Counselors will be on campus at Flagler Palm Coast High School to help students, said Jason Wheeler, spokesman for the Flagler County School District. The counselors will remain on campus for as long as needed, he wrote.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A scholarship has been made in the memory of former Volusia County Schools Superintendent Tom Russell, who died last year after contracting COVID-19.
He worked with the district for 28 years. At the time of his death, 60-year-old Russell was the principal at Flagler-Palm Coast High.
“Mr. Russell was a tireless supporter of our Foundation and the students, teachers and staff in the district. With support from our community, his friends and colleagues, it is our desire for this to become a perpetual scholarship fund,” the Futures Foundation for Volusia County Schools wrote in a statement.

AdventHealth today announced it will build a $100 million, 100-bed hospital with an emergency room on Palm Coast Parkway, just west of the Market Street assisted living facility, bringing hundreds of jobs, remaking the complexion of the west side of Palm Coast Parkway and reasserting itself as the dominant force in health care in Palm Coast and Flagler as challengers appear on the horizon.
The four-story hospital is scheduled to open in late 2022, according to a company release, “and will join AdventHealth Palm Coast to provide additional convenience and comprehensive care, including world-class orthopedics services, to Flagler residents.”

Five Flagler Palm Coast wrestlers placed and the Bulldogs took seventh in team points at the Cradle Cancer Invitational at Jensen Beach on Jan. 8 and 9.
Kyle Peacock led the FPC squad with a second-place finish in the 160-pound class. He pinned his first round opponent in 49 seconds and then picked up wins by decision in the next two, including a 3-0 win in the bracket semi-finals. He was defeated 6-2 in the championship match by Riley Orr of Fort Pierce Central.
Marcelo Gonzalez was third in the 180-pound class and pinned four of five opponents, including a squash in 39 seconds in the quarterfinals and a 4:54 win to take the third place. Garrick Schwartz (195) was 3-2 including a 4-2 win in overtime sudden victory in the consolation bracket semi-final and Seth Davis (285) was 3-2 with a pin and two decisions. Both upperweights took fourth place. Kole Hannant (113) was fifth, going 3-2 with pins in all three of his victories.
