Sheriff presents Great Kids awards for January 2021

Share Ja’Cir Michael Knight-Boyd (RES), Kaileah Egasan (BTMS), and Jada Williams (FPCHS) received the award on Feb. 3. by: Brittany Kershaw Public Affairs Manager, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office On Feb. 3, Sheriff Rick Staly visited three local schools to present three exceptional students with awards for being “Great Kids” for the month of January 2021.  “The Great Kid Awards give us the opportunity to meet and recognize some extraordinary kids doing great things in our community and in their schools,” said Sheriff Staly.  “This is a terrific tradition that we started in 2018 and it is something that we look forward to every month. We hear too much in the media about kids who make bad decisions, it is an honor to present this award to these students and shine a spotlight on the kids in Flagler County who are working to make a positive impact.”

Flagler Schools names teacher and employee of the year: Khady Harmon and Chuck Coates

2 months ago Share by: Jason Wheeler Flagler Schools Community Information Specialist In a first for Flagler Schools, this year’s District Teacher and Employee Celebration was held entirely online, Thursday, Jan. 28th. In all, 17 employees and 11 teachers from across the district were honored. Following a number of video highlights introducing everyone to our 28 honorees, Superintendent Cathy Mittelstadt announced the District Teacher and District Employee of the Year.  Khady Harmon, a physics and chemistry teacher at Matanzas High School was named Teacher of the Year for Flagler Schools. On receiving the honor, Khady says, “No matter what happens, teachers are committed. The most important thing is our students. This is a year like we’ve never seen before, but I am so happy and honored to represent all the teachers in Flagler County.”

3 Arrested in Shooting Spree at K-Section House Involving 3 Guns and at Least 35 Bullets

Pajotte.  t Last Updated: 3:49 p.m. Three men were arrested two minutes after they allegedly were involved in a shooting spree at a house on Kalamazoo Trail Thursday evening, a shooting that caused ripples of alarm in the neighborhood. A 21-year-old pregnant woman was in the house at the time of the shooting. She was not injured. The motive for the shooting is not yet clearly known, though a witness told detectives she had been on the phone with her cousin–the victim of the shooting– who referred to an argument involving Bennett and another individual, who wanted to “meet up and fight.”

School district OKs agreement with developer, but plans revisions to impact fees

2 months ago Share The district will pay for a new impact fee study and look at ways to lessen overcrowding, such as rezoning. When calculating the fees that the developer of a proposed community on John Anderson Highway should pay to offset the number of students the new homes will generate, the school district initially got it wrong, undershooting the number based on outdated data and leading the School Board to reject it.  The district has fixed that error and come to an agreement with the developer of the proposed community, called the Hammock Beach River Club and formerly known as The Gardens. 

Robert Bossardet named interim principal at Flagler Palm Coast High School

3 months ago Share Bossardet has been serving as the district’s Executive Director of Leadership Development, and will continue in that position as well. by: Flagler Schools Flagler Schools Superintendent Cathy Mittelstadt announced Jan. 7 that Robert Bossardet, the district’s Executive Director of Leadership Development will also become the interim principal of Flagler-Palm Coast High School. In making the decision Mittelstadt said: “The current administrative team has done a remarkable job in the wake of the loss of Principal Tom Russell. The process to find his successor has to be a deliberate one and this action allows us all time to find the right person to lead FPC into future years.”
