11 Great Hotel Restaurants Across Metro Phoenix

5700 East McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley Elements at Sanctuary is no secret. Executive chef Beau MacMillan, who’s thrown down with Bobby Flay and cooked for Jay Z and Beyonce, helped put Scottsdale on the food map with his seasonal menu focusing on local ingredients infused with Asian flavors. (Chef de cuisine Samantha Sanz is no slouch, either.) Not only will you have an unforgettable meal think braised volcano lamb shank with smoked eggplant, or black truffle lobster risotto with chanterelle mushrooms but the mountain views are also so swoon-worthy that you’ll at least feel like you’re on vacation.

How to spend Valentine s Day in downtown Phoenix, pandemic style

(Nicole Neri/DD) Ironically, as we quickly approach the one-year anniversary of nationwide isolation and various statewide lockdowns, we also approach the day dedicated to the celebration of love and romance: Valentine’s Day.  Just like every holiday this year, some traditions must be altered to partake in the occasion. But luckily, in Phoenix, there are plenty of options for a romantic and safe February for citizens of all ages.  The first of these activities is an open-air Valentine’s Day market occurring this Saturday, Feb. 6 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Bragg’s Vendor Market.  “It’s mostly all gifts, 100 percent either handmade or vintage,” Kate Benjamin, one of the market coordinators, said. “It’s a really good variety of fun things from our favorite people and all very good quality.”

Roundup: Seed Up Saturday, Arizona Beer Week, and the To-Go Cocktail House Bill

HB 2773 Hopes to Legalize To-Go Cocktails for Bars and Restaurants The Arizona legislature is back in session, and on Monday a bill was introduced that would allow bars and restaurants across Arizona to once again sell to-go cocktails. This is not to be confused with off-sale privileges i.e., packaged alcohol which bars with a Series 6 liquor license are currently allowed to conduct by law. Rather, we re talking about sealed drinks that bars mix and sell to customers. The bill, HB 2773, would give restaurants (which typically hold a Series 12 liquor license) an opportunity to apply for and purchase an additional permit to sell to-go cocktails. Arizona state House Representative Jeff Weninger introduced HB 2773; he also is a co-owner of Floridino’s Pizza & Pasta and Dilly’s Deli. The bill would also make it legal for third-party delivery services to transport the goods, allowing them to obtain a license from the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control.

Meet Little Rituals Chanel Godwin-McMaken, a top Phoenix bartender

Chanel Godwin-McMaken didn t always envision becoming one of Phoenix s top bartenders. Starting at age 4, she dreamed of being a professional dancer. Throughout high school, she danced for four hours a day, from the second she finished school until 9 at night.  I was the kid that was always getting pulled out of school to go to performances,  Godwin-McMaken says. Dance was literally my everything, She performed different styles, but ballet was always her favorite. Once she earned her first pair of pointe shoes, she never looked back. Ultimately, she  danced on pointe for close to 10 years. These days, Godwin-McMaken has swapped pointe shoes for Nike sneakers and traded dancing onstage for a different type of performance.
