When iZCALLi headlines Rock de Mayo at Levitt Pavilion on May 15, it will be the Denver rock band’s first time playing a concert in over a year.
“We’re getting ready to get back on track, and honestly, this is exactly where we left off last year, says Miguel Avina, singer and guitarist for the band, which also includes drummer Luiggy Ramirez and Miguel s sister, bassist Brenda Avina. Before the pandemic, the act had enjoyed enormous local success, playing nearly every major venue other than Red Rocks and Ball Arena.
This will be the eighth edition of Rock de Mayo, a showcase of genre-spanning Latin music everything from hip-hop to mariachi to jazz handpicked by Miguel. This year’s lineup includes his father’s rock band, El Cro; the Trujillo Company; Los Reyes del Huepa; musical polymath Wes Watkins; Mono Verde Collective; the hip-hop group 2MX2; and Verena and Danilo Santoy, with guest appearances by Tamara, Disco Movil Maracay, Andy Gonzalez of Roka Hueka, Bail

Unlike the articles he read in the Denver media, Rubinstein didn’t want to shine undue light on the city’s power brokers, and instead spent most of his time reporting on what he calls “invisible Denver” the neighborhood communities, activist circles and even gangs that are so often ignored by the mainstream press.
“What I wanted to do and it turned out to be even more important than I first realized was to tell this story mostly from the perspective of the people who were not represented over the years in those types of stories,” he says. “It was so hard to really find material about this kind of neighborhood that wasn’t from law enforcement sources.
Arizona-based Buffalo Exchange and former Colorado franchise co-owner Patrick Todd Colletti are among those being sued by four former employees nearly ten months after dozens of accusations of sexual assault and harassment, verbal abuse, physical assault and workplace cocaine use surfaced on the Instagram account Buffalo in the Room in late July 2020.
The eleven claims in the lawsuit, filed in Denver on May 11 by Lowrey Parady Lebsack, LLC, include allegtions of sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact, assault and battery, along with class-action violations of Colorado s anti-discrimination laws.
Shortly after the accusations against Colletti surfaced last summer, Buffalo Exchange s Arizona offices severed ties with the Colorado franchise stores in Boulder and Denver and stripped them of the right to use the brand name.
