Desperate for points in the standings, the Michigan State hockey team fell to Notre Dame 2-0 Friday night at Munn Ice Arena.
Freshman Pierce Charleson got his first NCAA start Friday, giving usual starter Drew DeRidder and night off, while also hoping to provide a spark to the rest of the team.
After a quick, clean, and mostly uneventful first period things picked up in the second frame with significant scoring chances by both teams.

Michigan State’s trip to “The State of Hockey” was a forgetful one after a 5-1 defeat and sweep at No. 4 Minnesota Saturday night.
The first period started off slowly with lots of faceoffs and few shots on goal. Minnesota would register the first shot on goal by either team just over five minutes into the game, followed by Michigan State’s first shot on goal a minute and a half later.

Hockey is a weird game, and that showed Saturday evening.
After losing 9-0 to No. 9 Michigan on Friday, Michigan State bounced back and secured a 3-2 victory over the Wolverines in dramatic fashion at Munn Ice Arena, scoring two goals in the final two minutes.
Michigan State started off the game with energy, something they didn’t have much of all game in yesterday’s loss. Tommy Apap returned to the lineup after missing the last two games, and his presence made an immediate impact as he won the opening faceoff, which was followed
