Tonight, for the first time this season, the Rockies and Cubs will face each other. The three-game series at Coors Field comes with both clubs approaching how to run their organizations in very different styles.
The Cubs traded 11 players in the month of July, including Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, and Javier Báez, in order to transform their farm system from being in the bottom third of the league to close to the top third. The Cubs did this after going 34-26 in winning the NL Central in 2020 and having a record of 51-56 going into Tuesday night’s game.

WASHINGTON Bryce Harper s solo home run in the eighth inning against his former team was the difference in the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 victory against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.
Harper hit a 430-foot home run to left-center off Javy Guerra, his 17th, for a 5-2 lead.
The Phils held on for their third consecutive victory. They are now 11/2 games behind the division-leading New York Mets, who lost again to Miami on Tuesday.

The Rockies offense finally showed up for Kyle Freeland.
Elias Díaz hit a grand slam and Sam Hilliard added a three-run homer and RBI double, C.J. Cron recorded three hits and three RBI, and Trevor Story hit two doubles, scored two runs, and drove in another as the Rockies bats were on fire in a 13-6 win over the Cubs on Tuesday night. Díaz scored three runs and came up just a triple shy of the cycle.
To put things in perspective, the Rockies had totaled four runs in Kyle Freeland’s last four starts combined. Thanks for Díaz’s first career grand slam, which also happens to be the seventh of the season for the Rockies, Freeland was pitching with a 4-1 lead after two innings. Another bright side of the plentiful offensive production was that Cubs fans were actually drowned out by Rockies fans at Coors Field.
