Island Police: Dump truck loses load
Southwest Harbor
Mount Desert Police Department asked for help in locating a dump truck that had lost some of its load in that town and was believed to be traveling to Southwest Harbor on March 24 around 11 a.m. Officers were able to find the truck and talk to the driver about contacting the MDPD and retrieving its lost load.
A woman called police around 7 p.m. on March 24 to report her daughter had hit a deer with her vehicle while traveling on Seawall Road. According to the woman, the deer had died as a result of the crash, and the vehicle was off the road, out of traffic.
Karen Louise Smith
Karen Louise Smith, 78, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at her home in Vienna, West Virginia.
She was born May 5, 1942, in Elizabeth, WV, a daughter of the late Neva Cain Bennett and Encil Davis.
Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Neva Bennett; and her brother, Mike Davis.
She is survived by her loving children, Beth Ann Smith and Michael Smith, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Zoe Smith, Kylee Smith, Carly Smith and Lilly Smith. She also leaves behind her dearest sisters, Ann West and Debbie Buckhannon; and her brothers, Jon and Mark Davis, whom she adored.

The 2021 DII softball season is nearly a month old, which means we re more than two months away from the championship. Early as it may be, there s never a bad time for predictions.
So NCAA.com went region-by-region to predict the eight teams that will make it to the 2021 championship. For reference, the championship is scheduled for May 27-31 at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver.
Regions and their respective contenders are listed in alphabetical order.

BURGLARY
EAST COCALICO TWP.: Kyle E. Smith, 19, of Mountville, and Sebastian Cndelario, 19, of Blandon, were charged with multiple counts of burglary, theft and criminal mischief after breaking into ST Nails salon in the 900 block of North Reading Road just after 2 a.m. on Sept. 20 and taking about $500 in cash, police said. The two then attempted to break into another business but were scared off by an alarm system, police said.
DRUG CHARGES
EAST COCALICO TWP.: Justin R. Monick, 26, of West Lawn, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia after authorities were called to the 2500 block of North Reading Road on Jan. 21 at 9:44 p.m. for a report of a man running down the road yelling for help, police said. Officers found Monick, who claimed there were âspirits in the (hotel) room,â police said.
