FUKUOKA A special Nagareboshi Shinkansen, or shooting star bullet train, ran in the southwestern Japan region of Kyushu with a spectacular display of light on the night of March 14 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Kyushu Shinkansen Line s full-scale opening.
The bullet train, casting beams of light from windows in seven colors with special lighting equipment, ran from Kagoshima-Chuo Station in the city of Kagoshima to Hakata Station in the city of Fukuoka. An event to view the shinkansen was held in a multipurpose square near Chikugo-Funagoya Station in the Fukuoka Prefecture town of Chikugo, and some 2,100 people enjoyed the view.

Four listed Japan Railways Group firms posted record net losses in April-December last year, hit by plunges in revenue from their mainstay transportation services amid the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Of the four, East Japan Railway Co., or JR East, revised down its net loss estimate for the year ending in March from ¥418 billion to ¥450 billion, as passenger demand fell further due to voluntary restrictions on going out that spread among the public following the government’s declaration in January of a state of emergency over the virus.

(JR Kyushu) announced on Jan. 27 that it would operate one special bullet train decorated with lights on the night of March 14 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Kyushu Shinkansen Line s full-scale opening on this southwestern Japan island. The special 800 series shinkansen train will run from Kagoshima-Chuo Station in Kagoshima Prefecture to Hakata Station in Fukuoka Prefecture on the night of March 14 but with no passengers. The decorations on both outside and inside the Nagareboshi Shinkansen or Shooting Star Shinkansen will include people s wishes.
