Payne scores 10 as Alabama all-stars clock Mississippi

From The Tribune staff reports MONTGOMERY – Alabama’s girls’ all-stars left little doubt Friday in the first half of the 31st Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Basketball Classic in Montgomery. The talented Alabama squad led 27-23 early in the second quarter but by halftime had a 54-37 lead – outscoring the visitors 27-14 in the final seven minutes before intermission. The second half was more of the same as Alabama rolled to a 102-70 win in the 31st contest in the series dating back to 1991.  Alabama’s girls have now won three in a row and hold a 17-14 edge in the series. This year’s edition featured a strong showing from Hewitt-Trussville senior Amiya Payne, who delivered 10 points and six rebounds for Team Alabama. The 6-foot guard has signed with Middle Tennessee State.
