🥎 Jayhawks Drop Series Opener to Cyclones

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore Madison Hirsch hit her fifth home run of the season but Kansas softball (22-24, 2-14 Big 12) drops the opening game of a three-game series to Iowa State (29-19, 4-12 Big 12), 9-3, on Friday night at Arrocha Ballpark. Five Jayhawks contributed to KU’s six hits against the Cyclones with Shelby Gayre leading Kansas with two. Ashlyn Anderson, Morgyn Wynne, Hirsch and Peyton Renzi tallied one each. Despite the Jayhawks dropping the game, Kansas was the first team to get on the board. In the bottom of the first inning, KU loaded the bases with two outs. Cheyenne Hornbuckle stepped to the plate and drew a walk to bring Anderson home and give the Jayhawks a 1-0 lead.

🥎 Jayhawks Begin Homestand Against SDSU and UNI

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas softball (9-5) begins a 14-game homestand at Arrocha Ballpark on Wednesday, March 10 with a doubleheader against South Dakota State. Action continues Thursday with a single game against the Jackrabbits before capping the weekend with single games against the University of Northern Iowa on Friday and Saturday. The Jayhawks are coming off a 4-1 performance last weekend at the Wooo Pig Classic and are 8-2 in the last 10 games played. With an overall record of 9-5, KU is off to the best start since head coach Jennifer McFalls took over the program in 2019. Here’s what to know about the Jayhawks entering this weekend:

🥎 Jayhawks Score Seven in Fourth to Defeat UTA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Kansas softball (5-4) scored seven runs in the fourth inning to defeat UT Arlington, 10-8, on Sunday morning at the 2021 UTSA Classic. Sydnee Ramsey and Morgyn Wynne each had multi-run home runs with Ramsey blasting a two-run homer in the third before Wynne sent one over the right-field fence for a three-run homer in the fourth. KU finished the game with six hits and eight RBI. The win capped off a 4-1 weekend for the Jayhawks in tournament play. Sunday’s game was quiet on both sides for the first two innings of play. KU’s defense and pitcher, Savanna DesRochers, held strong turning over the Mavericks batters at a quick pace and DesRochers picked up two strikeouts to keep things tied.
