Jan. 8 Bocca Taqueria in Fresno’sTower District may have closed, but a new restaurant has opened in its place.
Aroma’s is a fusion restaurant carrying a little bit of everything: breakfast, Mexican, Italian, American and Asian.
At 568 E. Olive Ave., it’s right next door to El Patio Mexican Restaurant. In fact, it’s the people who own El Patio who have opened Aroma’s.
They bought the business from Bocca and opened it in mid December.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) A tall marquee has marked the creative center of Fresno for decades. The Tower District is a very unique, historical area, said the district s city council member, Esmeralda Soria. It s iconic.
But the original icon has riled up some of the district s devotees.
Since word got out that Adventure Church planned to buy the theater, the topic has dominated discussion for Council Member Esmeralda Soria. It s probably been in the hundreds emails, texts, direct calls, direct messages through social media just expressing their concerns about what this change would mean to the Tower District as a whole, she said. There are different restrictions about what kind of uses and businesses can come into that economic corridor.
Listen to the story here.
The sale of Fresno’s historic Tower Theatre is raising concerns among businesses and residents. The buyer, Adventure Church, currently holds Sunday services at the theatre. But according to Fresno City Councilmember Esmeralda Soria, that’s a violation of current zoning laws.
“We researched our land use and code on what is authorized and we have gotten a determination that actually the current use of religious assembly is not allowed,” says Soria.
The property is currently zoned for commercial main street uses, which does not allow religious assembly on a property that is more than 2000 square feet. The Tower Theatre is 15,000 square feet. As a result, the code enforcement department has drafted a letter to notify the owner about the violation, Soria says.
