Zonta’s online auction features iconic artists

During the last half of the 20th Century, Sanibel’s reputation as an artist colony grew. Artists such as Ikki Matsumoto, Katie Gardenia and Charles McCullough became household names, inspired by the island’s ambience to develop their talent and build a community. Other artists followed, drawn to the qualities and Sanibel’s beauty.
The Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva is offering a chance to own a piece of art from these and other prominent artists in its “Peek at the Unique Repurposed” online auction, which replaces its traditional tour of island homes for just this year.
Weather delays opening of 3 exhibits at DMA

Still Life with Parrot and Flag, 1951, by Frida Kahlo, will be on exhibit at the DMA beginning March 7.
Three exhibits scheduled to open at the Dallas Museum of Art were each delayed a week due to last week’s weather and power failure.
Devoted: Art and Spirituality in Mexico and New Mexico will open on March 7 and remain on exhibit in the Tower Gallery through Jan. 2, 2022. The exhibit features devotional works drawn from the DMA’s Latin American collection, exploring interrelated artistic traditions in the two regions. The exhibition spotlights the complexity and artistic qualities of these objects, which embody the active spiritual relationship between their creators, patrons, and communities.

One of my favorite stories of all time would have to be A Christmas Carol. Charles Dickens perfectly encapsulates the Christmas spirit through literal spirit representatives from the past, present and future. I had the ghost of Christmas past on my mind recently during a visit to the Grand Traverse Resort. Memories of the famed Northwoods Festival of Lights flooded my mind, as I thought of myself as a child, mesmerized by the animatronic bears, penguins and even flying horses that adorned the lobby as I waited in line to tell Santa my Christmas wishes.
If the Grand Traverse Resort had a ghost of Christmas past, it would probably be Don Sharpe.
