WEST MICHIGAN â United Ways across Michigan are teaming up with Kellogg and food pantries to ensure families stay fed through the summer and beyond.
Summer Stock Up aims to keep food pantries fully supplied at a time of year when donations typically fall off, Tony Iovieno, senior director of resource development at United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region, said in a news release Friday.

KALAMAZOO, MI Over the past four months, one former motel and one hotel, about 15 minutes apart, have become temporary homes for more than 200 individuals facing homelessness in Kalamazoo.
More than a short-term stopgap, both properties the former Knights Inn motel at 1211 S. Westnedge Ave. and an undisclosed hotel on the western side of the county have been buzzing with service providers working within strict time constraints to connect as many residents as possible to more permanent housing solutions.
“We just sort of stay humble and keep pushing through,” said Kristina Rodriguez, a mother of four who has been staying in the hotel with her children and fiancé. “It’s definitely been a learning experience.”

KALAMAZOO, Mich. â A collaborative effort among Kalamazoo nonprofits and government will provide safe shelter for up to 125 unhoused individuals currently staying at outdoor encampments in the area.
The Hoteling Intervention Program will offer up to 90 hotel rooms, plus meals, personal care items, case management support and links to support services, according to a news release Tuesday.
The new program got a financial boost Monday when the Kalamazoo City Commission approved a grant of $250,000 through the Foundation for Excellence to United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Regionâs Disaster Relief Fund.

KALAMAZOO, MI The city of Kalamazoo voted to allocate $250,000 in Foundation for Excellence funds to help people living at tent encampments move temporarily to hotel rooms.
The Kalamazoo City Commission on Monday, March 15, approved an agreement with the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region for a $250,000 grant. The money, drawn from the Kalamazoo Foundation for Excellence 2020 fiscal year fund balance, will go to the organization’s disaster relief fund.
