Kalamazoo SWAT team conducts scenario training at Miller Auditorium

The Kalamazoo Metro SWAT Team conducted scenario training at Miller Auditorium Wednesday, April 14. These trainings test the SWAT officers on their skills for possible real-life scenarios, said Robert Holdwick, Kalamazoo Public Safety lieutenant.  “We need to be prepared if there is an incident, not specifically any college campus, but at a location where there would be a large number of people,” Holdwick said. “Miller Auditorium happens to be a place where a lot of people gather, so we’d like to be able to respond to that.” The Kalamazoo Metro Swat is a multi-jurisdictional team composed of members from KDPS, Portage Public Safety, Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office and Kalamazoo Township Police. Members of WMU Public Safety are also a part of the SWAT team.

Fugitive from Kalamazoo County sought after skipping out on court appearance

Antonio Perkins - Courtesy Michigan State Police KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Michigan State Police officials are asking for the public’s help to try and locate a fugitive from Kalamazoo County. 35-year-old Antonio Perkins is wanted for failing to appear in court related to a shooting incident in January of 2019. Perkins is accused of shooting multiple rounds into a Kalamazoo Township home in the 4000 block of Grand Prairie Road. Eleven days later, the home was intentionally set on fire, claiming the life of 71-year-old Gary Robert Selig. Perkins is described as a black male, 5’ 4″ tall, weighing 150 pounds. Based on records from the Michigan Department of Corrections, Perkins has two prior felony convictions both related to weapons.
