Kalamazoo County Jail (photo by John McNeil) KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller says after a thorough investigation, they’ve determined a county jail inmate found dead last December 17 committed suicide. According to a release from the sheriff Friday, a Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department deputy making her regular rounds that day discovered an unresponsive inmate in a cell in the medical/mental health wing of the Kalamazoo County Jail. The deputy immediately called for help and initiated life-saving measures to revive the individual, to no avail. 29 year-old Chase David Dalton Lovell of Galesburg had been arraigned in Kalamazoo County District Court December 16 on a charge of first-degree arson for a fire in the psychiatric unit of Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Winter weather advisory in place until Friday

Could SW Michigan receive its first big snowfall of the year? (Photo by MDOT) KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for several areas in Southwest Michigan. The alert concerns the counties of Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Barry, Van Buren and more. It will be in place until at least 4 p.m. Friday, according to the NWS. Residents may see between 3 to 5 inches of snowfall, with wind gusts of up to 40 MPH through Thursday night and Friday. Wind chills will be around zero degrees on Friday. Officials say residents should plan on slippery road conditions, along with blowing snow that can reduce visibility. These conditions are expected on Thursday evening, and are expected to be worse on Friday.
