Ireland’s GAA and GPA call for ban on betting ads during live games Share
Gaelic Athletics Association (GAA) and
Gaelic Players Association (GPA), have argued for new regulations targeting gambling advertisements.
This is not the first time that the GPA has expressed its opinions on gambling’s presence within sports across the country.
Last year, the GPA showed its support for a gambling overhaul, having been in discussions with broadcasters to limit the prevalence of betting advertisements during live coverage of Gaelic football and hurling.
Since then, both sporting bodies have implemented independent bans on gambling sponsorship, and are now arguing for the introduction of legislation at a national level.

Dublin star Carla Rowe has her heart set on defending her side’s TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship this year – and feels the lure of a magical five-in-a-row could keep Mick Bohan’s panel unified in another uncertain season.
Rowe was one of Dublin’s standout players as she helped her side to victory in December’s All-Ireland Final victory over Cork.
After showing brilliant form throughout the condensed championship season, Lidl One Good Club ambassador Rowe joined Armagh’s Aimee Mackin and Dublin’s Sinéad Goldrick on the Senior Players’ Player of the Year shortlist last week.

THE latest delay to the resumption of Gaelic Games activities could have important ramifications for the format of the club season in particular, but Tyrone GAA PRO Eugene McConnell says that the health and safety of members is paramount.
The Tyrone CCC had recently completed a consultation with clubs with a view to firming up the structures of this year’s league and championships, but that has been put on hold for now as a result of last week’s revelations that there’ll be no return to action before Easter at the very earliest.

Losing just one game in all of 2020 indicates that Ladies Football in Kerry is in a very healthy state, but ending last year without a medal or Lidl National League promotion makes the wait for the new season to commence agonising for the players.
Kerry’s unbeaten Division 2 campaign had them on the verge of promotion back into the elite tier before the coronavirus struck and the competition was shelved.
Those five impressive wins were added to with their TG4 Senior Championship victory against Cavan, before a one-goal loss to eventual finalists Cork stalled their season.
