Leitrim man receives suspended sentence for leaving hotel without paying

A man who left a hotel without paying and gave false credit card details was convicted and sentenced to five months in prison suspended for two years at Carrick-on-Shannon District Court last Tuesday.
Gregoir O Aidicin, 7 Ard na Sí, Attirory, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim pleaded guilty to the offences on February 15, 2019 and on July 1, 2019 at Harvey’s Point, Lough Eske, Donegal.
The court heard he made off without payment of €332 and €312 respectively.
Solicitor for the defendant, Tom McSharry, said the crime was “opportunistic in nature” and he had sent a letter of apology to the hotel and had €650 compensation with him.

Defendant likened to ‘The Bird’ found with claw hammers near Leitrim parking machine

A man whose role in an attempt to commit a theft was likened to that of the character The Bird in the film, The Field appeared before Carrick-on-Shannon Court last week on a plea of guilty.
Christopher Stokes, 10 Rosebank, Attirory, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim pleaded guilty at Carrick-on-Shannon District Court to having in his possession three black spur claw hammers to be used in the course of a theft on July 13, 2020 at Mercantile Plaza, Townparks, Carrick-on-Shannon.
Mr Stokes had failed to appear in court the previous week and said he had been at a funeral and couldn t attend.
Man jailed following ‘appalling episode’ in Mohill

An altercation between neighbours in Mohill resulted in three people appearing before Carrick- on-Shannon District Court last week.
The court heard that in the course of the altercation there was “an uncivilised attack” with a hurley and a knife being produced by two of the parties.
After hearing the evidence, Judge Kevin Kilrane described it as “an appalling episode” and remarked that the people involved are strangers and “wherever they came from, they came with trouble.”
Appearing in court were Christopher Murray, 25 Cappagh, Mohill who pleaded guilty to threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour, and producing an article, a knife, capable of inflicting serious injury, on July 31, 2020 at 38 Cappagh, Mohill.
