WREXHAM: âExcitementâ for independence in North East Wales could see more voters backing Plaid Cymru, says party leader

THE level of “excitement” for independence in North East Wales could see more voters backing Plaid Cymru, the party’s leader has claimed. Adam Price said Plaid Cymru would hold an independence referendum in the first five year term if elected to govern following tomorrow’s (Thursday, May 6) Senedd elections. One recent opinion poll put support for Welsh independence as high as 39 per cent, with Wrexham selected as the next location for an independence rally once large gatherings are permitted.

Wrexham inundated with political visits ahead of the election on Thursday
Wrexham has seen many senior figures from a range of political parties rock up over the last few weeks, each wanting to highlight why their favoured candidate will do a better job in the Senedd than anyone else.
Polling day is on Thursday for both the Senedd – and the next Police and Crime Commissioner for North Wales.
A lot of work has gone into making sure polling stations are as safe as possible on May 6, but you can help by following a few simple steps when you go to vote:

Wrexham.com’s unscientific election Straw Poll results !
Our entirely unscientific snap straw poll results are in!
Well over a thousand poll results were lodged in our now traditional snap straw poll that we conducted yesterday evening.
Of course polls such of these are lacking the segmentation and pre-qualification elements of ‘proper’ polls so treat it accordingly. The audience in theory was the self selecting readership relevant to the Wrexham area – however one candidate did place their poll on their page within minutes of it going live, and unlike previous polls the Google Forms system does not allow basic filtering to attempt to prevent multiple voters.

The Prime Minister was speaking during a visit to a factory in Wrexham, which was foreshadowed by claims he said he would rather have “bodies pile high in their thousands” than implement a third coronavirus lockdown. He described the allegations as “total, total rubbish” after details of a discussion, which was said to have been held in Downing Street in the autumn, were reported by the Daily Mail.
