Call for public inquiry into killings at Deradda Woods 37 years later

This week marked the 37th anniversary of the killing of trainee Garda Gary Sheean and Priave Patrick Kelly in Deradda Woods, Co Leitrim.
Fianna Fáil Senator Robbie Gallagher said the families of both men are entitled to the truth.
Speaking in the Seanad on Thursday, December 17 he said, This week marks the 37th anniversary of the murders of trainee garda Gary Sheehan and Private Patrick Kelly. They were both killed by the Provisional IRA in Derrada Woods in County Leitrim in 1983 while trying to rescue the businessman Mr. Don Tidey. There was no justification for the murder of these two young innocent men or, indeed, for the kidnapping of Mr. Don Tidey.

Limerick now face Clare or Tipperary for a place in the Munster MFC final
Limerick advanced to the semi-finals of the Munster minor football championship after defeating Waterford by 2-12 to 1-5 this afternoon at the LIT Gaelic Grounds.
Goals from David O’Shaughnessy (1-5) and James Killian either side of the break helped the Treaty men to cruise in this one and book a spot against either Clare or Tipperary next Wednesday night.
The hosts had been three up when the earned a penalty in first-half injury-time which O’Shaughnessy converted and points from Ciaran O’Sullivan and Gary Sheehan would see them leading by 1-6 to 0-3 at half-time.
