Clackamas County homelessness town hall draws wide interest
More than 100 viewers, dozens of speakers show up to voice ideas and experiences
More than 100 community members from across Clackamas County tuned into a virtual town hall Wednesday, April 7, discussing the issue of homelessness and how the county can respond to help identify creative solutions to address the growing crisis.
Lasting about an hour and a half, the forum provided a space for county residents, business leaders, nonprofit employees and others to chime in and provide their experience on what different kinds of housing is needed throughout the community, and how Clackamas County could work with community partners and developers to incentivize the creation of those units.
Free tax filing help is currently available to anyone in El Campo, with a qualifying return, thanks to two volunteers from the AARP Foundation.
âIdeally, weâre trying to help people that are on the low income side,â AARP Volunteer Gary Schmidt said.
Locals can make an appointment for tax aid, regardless of age or income level, but whether the volunteers can help will depend on the complexity of the return. Once an appointment is made, a volunteer meets with the client to gather information. The client then leaves their tax return documents, and they will be called to pick up the return once it is completed.

Clackamas County is investigating whether its Veterans Advisory Council (VAC) improperly used time to engage in a dialogue with Commissioner Mark Shull regarding disparaging statements he made on Facebook regarding Muslims and other groups.
During their March 4 meeting, Shull suggested to his fellow county commissioners that its VAC be dissolved in its current form and re-established using an application process looking at the military biographies of those interested in serving on the committee. Shull, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, said the goal of this reform would be to strip the council of any partisanship.
