Fireworks Issue Is Resolved

By ERIC X. VICCARO Some fireworks about fireworks? Perhaps. But, the Ste. Genevieve Parks and Recreation Board ultimately resolved a conflict during its Monday, April 26 meeting over the summer “Movies in the Park” series and a fireworks program set for Pere Marquette Park. Both events were originally scheduled for Saturday, June 26 – however it was decided the fireworks show will take place on Friday, June 25 instead. J&M Displays, a nationally known company, puts on the fireworks presentation. “Our creative and experienced pyrotechnicians will produce a show that will thrill guests,” J&M Displays says on its website: jandmdisplays.com. Ste. Genevieve field operations supervisor Gary Roth already has set up a Venmo account – called the “Ste. Genevieve Fireworks Fund” – to help pay for the show.

City Of Ste Genevieve Will Stay With Alliance Water Resources, Lone Bidder

By Editor | May 5, 2021 By ERIC X. VICCARO It was a case of “much ado about nothing.” The city of Ste. Genevieve received only one qualification submittal for the water/sewer operator contract. The only company to submit a request for qualifications (RFQ), as it turned out, was Alliance Water Resources – the current contractor for said services. City administrator Happy Welch said the city is still analyzing the submittal, and negotiations will take place during the next couple of months. Welch said the goal is to have a new contract ready to approve by the first board of aldermen meeting in July.

Price Drops On City Hall Renovation

By Editor | April 28, 2021 By ERIC X. VICCARO Let the work begin. The Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen approved an agreement with Donze Construction, Inc., of Ste. Genevieve to begin work on the remodel of the police department and city hall basement. The final price tag for construction will be $298,914, which comes as a $14,539 reduction from the originally accepted bid. City administrator Happy Welch noted the current building has a good, stable foundation. Elected officials and city leaders agreed that was important investing in the current structure – rather than moving or beginning new construction elsewhere. “This is something that will last the city 50 years,” Welch added.

The public hearing didn’t have much drama, lasting less than one minute with no questions asked. Ste. GHS Holdings, LLC has requested annexation of a 0.46-acre tract into the city of Ste. Genevieve. The land is located at 21551 State Highway 32, with GHS Holdings as the owner. Emily Gegg is listed as the registered agent. The original general warranty deed to the property is dated Aug. 30, 2019.
