NURSERIES in Inverclyde have hailed a local charity for stepping in to make happy memories for children and support families in need. Welfare organisation Children in Poverty Inverclyde recently teamed up with Kilmacolm businessman John Laird to give food vouchers to struggling parents following a £3,000 donation from the engineering boss and his family. CIPI raises money to send hundreds of local children on holiday with their families every year and also donates food vouchers to frontline services like nurseries, health visitors and Women s Aid. At a handover, nursery staff told the Tele about the strong impact the charity is having.

Sitting on the fringes of Snowdonia National Park is a grand house that is reminiscent of the Palace of Versailles.
Kinmel Hall, a Grade I listed mansion, was built in 1874 for the Hughes copper mining family. It was modelled after the French royals’ home.
Designed by renowned Victorian architect William E Nesfield as a “calendar house”, it has 365 windows and 12 entrances.
But the 80,000 sq ft property fell into disrepair, and has been derelict since 1999. Before then it was a private home, until 1929, and then was used as a hospital during the Second World War, and later as a school.

Supported by a team of campaign volunteers, Luisa Porritt is knocking on doors in a public housing complex in South London. The structure is covered in scaffolding and in need of serious repairs.
She is running for mayor, representing the Liberal Democrats, and housing is one of her top priorities. She has come up with a pitch that hopes to take advantage of the pandemic: turning empty office space into affordable homes.
