William Charles âBillâ Paxton, 88, of Union, died Feb. 26 at a retirement community in Baker City. A service will be held at a later time. Arrangements are by Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, La Grande.
Known as Bill, he was born July 8, 1932, in La Grande, to Charles William and Jennie Belle (Tracy) Paxton. He was raised and educated in Elgin and Union, graduating from Union High School in 1950.
Bill joined the U.S. Air Force and served most of his enlistment in Germany as a teletypist. After his honorable discharge in 1955 as a senior staff sergeant, he went to the Portland Radio and TV College and earned an associate degree. In 1956 he married Ann Schmidt in Portland. Ann died in 1988 after 32 years of marriage. In 1990 Bill married Betty âBetsyâ Anderson in Union.

Irish female artists like Denise Chaila are getting more airplay after data collected from Irish radio stations between June and December 2020 found that 85% of the top 20 most played songs were performed by male musicians.

Radio stations in Ireland have been urged by equality campaigners to implement comprehensive data-driven plans to counteract the glaring gender disparity of musicians receiving airplay.
The Why Not Her campaign compiled data from June to December 2020 on the top 20 most played songs by Irish artists on radio stations across the country, finding that 85% of artists in the top 100 airplay charts across all stations were male.

Teachers and staff of schools in Philadelphia arrived at the Roberts Center at Children s Hospital of Philadelphia for their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday.
The new effort comes as the Philadelphia School District plans to have employees face-to-face with students again. The district is planning on launching hybrid learning for students in grade pre-K through 2nd.
The district says getting a vaccine is not mandatory for employees to come back to work, however, it is highly recommended.
On Tuesday evening, we spoke with Alyssa Butler who is a teacher at Fox Chase Elementary School. If they go back, Butler says she ll feel much safer.

Speaking about Pray, she says, I wrote Pray in 2018, it is the last song from a batch of very honest stories I wrote about a tragic love affair. The lyrics fell out of the pen and the beat is in homage to my first love: hip-hop. It feels good to open the year with a track that I have held close for a long time.
