With Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan s surprise announcement she would not be seeking a second term in 2021 and would instead focus on the city s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the playing field has been left wide open for opportunistic urbanists and veteran officials alike to launch their bids.
Our top two advance primary is doing a disservice to voters, especially in crowded races.
With Seattle’s 2021 mayoral election looming and Mayor Jenny Durkan’s announcement she’s not running for reelection, the field could become quite crowded in the next few months. The 2017 election that also featured no incumbent. Durkan and Cary Moon ran in the general election, but before that we utilized a top two blanket primary to determine who would participate in that general election. Adding to the mystery: A nearby bench also was removed, and the grass in the area appears freshly cut.
Only a few ornaments remain on the ground.
The Texas Department of Transportation owns the land but says it s not aware of any activities in that area that would have involved those items being disturbed or removed.

“Most of these folks, around 40%, are brand-new to our services,” said Julie Butner, president and CEO of the TAFB. “These are folks who held two or three jobs and lost one. These are working families, but they don’t have enough money to meet their food needs.”
