Steps taken to mitigate sea erosion threat, protect affected families The number of relief camps in Kozhikode district was increased from three to nine on Sunday as part of measures to mitigate the threat of sea erosion and offer protection to the affected families. By complying with the COVID-19 protocol, 174 persons from 38 families were shifted to the camps, which were opened in Kozhikode and Koyilandy taluks.
17 relief camps have been opened across the State, accommodating more than 300 people.
With the influence of the deep depression over the Arabian Sea is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm,.red alerts have been sounded for five northern districts Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Saturday given the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall (in excess of 20 cm in a 24-hour period).
