People may venture out of their homes only for emergencies Triple lockdown will come into effect in Thrissur district from Monday as there has been no decline in the number of COVID-19 cases even after the authorities imposed strict preventive measures.
Around 80% of the grama panchayats, and municipal and corporation divisions have been declared containment zones in the district. The District Collector has listed additional control measures in the wake of the triple lockdown.
The decision to extend the lockdown was taken in view of high test positivity rates in districts, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government on Friday announced that the total lockdown being enforced in the state from May 8 to May 16 will be extended till May 23 to contain the massive spread of Covid-19.
The decision to extend the lockdown was taken in view of high test positivity rates in districts, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. The state is currently under a 9-day complete shutdown as part of its efforts to bring down the daily caseload of infected persons. Addressing a press conference here, Vijayan also announced triple lockdown in four districts Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram from May 16 to bring down the rising number of cases.

Thiruvananthapuram: In view of high COVID-19 positivity rate, Kerala Government on Friday extended the lockdown in the state till May 23.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also said that an enhanced triple lockdown will be imposed in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram, where the test positivity rate is higher.

The Kerala government decided to impose a nine-day complete shutdpwn as the weekend restrictions and curbs imposed earlier failed to create any desired impact in terms of the daily caseload of the infected persons.

According to reports, the lockdown that will be imposed in Kerala will be very strict, and cases will be lodged against violators who break the Covid protocols during this period. Medical experts in the state claimed that the lockdown will help to reduce the transmission of the virus to a great extent. The lockdown in the state is expected to end on May 16.
