KSEB relieved as daily use did not cross 80 mu in the past week
The plentiful summer rainfall has helped Kerala restrict electricity usage to manageable levels so far in April, much to the relief of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). Daily usage did not cross 80 million units (mu) even once in the past one week, but the picture may change when the rain subsides, leading to a rise in temperature and humidity, KSEB officials warned.
“Summer rains have helped reduce the demand considerably in April. Our projections indicated that daily consumption levels would have averaged 80-90 mu if the temperatures had soared. Heavy rainfall and strong winds lashed the capital city on Monday evening uprooting trees, bringing down overhead power lines and disrupting traffic in several places.
Rail traffic was hit after a tree fell on the track at the Pettah railway station around 7 p.m. Services were fully restored by 10.30 p.m.
Opening a sub-centre is much more cost-effective for the power utility
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is creating sub-centres under electrical section offices for guaranteeing efficiency and better service delivery in regions with a large number of consumers.
In a first for the KSEB, a proposal to open the sub-centres under 11 section offices has been cleared by the full-time directors of the State-run power utility.
Pitched as a low-cost solution, the concept primarily seeks to address issues linked to power supply failure within the time-frames set down in the Standards of Performance for service delivery prescribed by the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
