‘Knowledge society and a blueprint for future Kerala’ will be the theme
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the a ‘Youth Summit on Future Kerala’, a two-day conclave being organised by the AKG Study and Research Centre, on Sunday.
The event being conducted on the theme ‘Knowledge society and a blueprint for future Kerala’ will feature presentations by young scholars, students, other academic practitioners, IT professionals, young entrepreneurs, and others from arts, literature, culture, and sports.
According to reception committee chairman and State Planning Board member K.N. Harilal, general convener V. Sivadasan and convener Shafeeque Vadakkan, plenary sessions on education, health, labour force, development, and culture will also be held as part of the summit.

Scheme to locate experts for transforming higher education into knowledge economy
The Kerala State Higher Education Council has begun data combing for Keralite scientists, social scientists, technologists, and humanities scholars of universities and research institutions abroad. The endeavour is aimed at building a database for its brain-gain and brain-circulation scheme.
Commissioned by the State Planning Board, the project aims at attracting and integrating the State’s academic diaspora as short-term teachers, part-time collaborators, and co-supervisors in research through the schema of brain-gain and brain circulation.

It links different academic libraries in the State
KALNET (Kerala Academic Library Network), a shared platform for academic resources of libraries, has come into being in the State. Developed by the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC). the platform brings together 15 lakh titles of 11 universities and 147 libraries.
While it is modelled on DELNET (Developing Library Network) that links libraries in the country, KALNET is known to be the first such platform for university resources.
With a single search interface created using VuFind open source software, it serves as a unified catalogue to search for items across the collections of different academic libraries in the State. First-of-its-kind certificate course on decentralisation and local governance
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated a six-month-long academic programme for the newly elected leaders of local bodies here on Tuesday.
The first-of-its-kind certificate course on decentralisation and local governance is being conducted by Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) in collaboration with the Sree Narayana Guru Open University and the Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology.
Mr. Vijayan said that the innovative programme marked the coming together of universities that would pool in their expertise to enhance the training programme being offered by KILA. Such initiatives were bound to enhance the local body leaders’ understanding of decentralised governance.
