ALPENA The hunt is on for the 2021 Alpena Community College Distinguished Graduate, an honor awarded each year to an ACC alumnus who has achieved remarkable success in life.
Established in 1998 by the ACC Foundation, the ACC Distinguished Graduate award honors ACC alumni who have gone on to contribute to society through successful careers. Its recipients are examples of how a solid educational foundation from ACC can launch a lifetime of achievements.
The 2020 Distinguished Graduate was Thomas Sobeck (’88), president and chief financial officer of Presque Isle Electric and Gas Cooperative. Other past recipients of the honor include Keith Wallace, Dr. James E. Stoddard, Frank McCourt, Roger Bauer, and Kurt Golder.
While UK registrations have fallen by 28% during the pandemic, in Scotland they have risen by 19%. However, with the race still on to find a perfect match for those in need this Valentine’s Day, Scots are being asked to register with DKMS to help save the love of someone else’s life. Every 20 minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with blood cancer. 2000 people each year are dealt the shocking news that they need a blood stem cell transplant. To get a match, the genetic make-up has to be similar. With two in three of those people not finding a perfect match within their family, they must turn to the worldwide donor registry and rely on a stranger to save their lives.
Wine School of Philadelphia moves into 2021 offering diverse list of online instruction

Remote education has been a challenge at all levels this year because of the pandemic, forcing alternate routes of instruction.
The Wine School of Philadelphia has been celebrating the changes it had to make to overcome the obstacles of moving online, saying in a recent press release that it succeeded in teaching its sommelier certification course remotely this fall, prompting it to recently unveil its online school.
