Former Alabama officer faces charges in alleged assault

CREOLA, Ala. (AP) A former south Alabama police officer faces charges after authorities say he assaulted a man being held in jail, tying a rope around his neck and hitting and kicking him.
A grand jury on Friday indicted Gary Davis, who was a Creola police officer, according to WKRG-TV. Mobile Assistant District Attorney Keith Blackwood told the television station that the alleged assault happened at the Creola jail on April 21.
After he was notified of the alleged assault, Police Chief Frank Hammond notified the State Bureau of Investigation. Once the investigation was complete, a disciplinary hearing was held last Monday and Davis was fired.

A Creola police officer who was fired Monday allegedly used a rope to choke an inmate in the city’s jail and kicked the prisoner late last month, according to a report.
Mobile County Jail records showed ex-Creola Police Officer Gary Davis was booked Friday on two assault charges and was released on $15,000 bond, although court records were not available for more details on the alleged incident.
Mobile County Chief Assistant District Attorney Keith Blackwood told Fox 15 in Mobile that an indictment against Davis alleged that the officer used a rope to choke an inmate at the Creola City Jail on April 21.

But identity thieves still get sensitive information the old-fashioned way.
That was the case for a Mobile woman, who said she has spent the better part of almost two years talking to credit ratings agencies and keeping up with credit cards issued in her name.
“The Mobile police were excellent,” she said. “It took over a year, almost two years to see that this woman was arrested.”
FOX10 News agreed not to identify the victim or the woman accused of stealing her identity. But FOX10 News verified the victim’s account with records in Mobile County Circuit Court, where the defendant has multiple charges pending.

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) A now-fired Mobile County corrections deputy, a convicted murder and that defendant’s wife have been indicted on charges relating to an alleged contraband-and-bribery scheme at the county’s lockup.
The indictments and authorities allege that Prichard resident Danell Michael Davis, who pleaded guilty to murder last year and is awaiting sentencing, arranged for a cell phone, charger and batteries to be sent to him.
Mobile County Chief Assistant District Attorney Keith Blackwood told FOX10 News that Davis, 29, paid $500 to Taeric Montez Sims, 26, a corrections deputy who since has been fired.
