The three former Minneapolis police officers charged in George Floyd s death could face third-degree murder charges following a recent court ruling.
The Minnesota Court of Appeals issued an order Wednesday reversing a District Court judge s order denying a request from prosecutors to add third-degree murder charges against J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao.
The Court of Appeals ruling sends the prosecution s request back to Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill for reconsideration and allows him to hear more arguments from both sides before deciding whether to add the count in the three cases.
Kueng, Lane and Thao are scheduled to stand trial in March 2022. They are each charged with one count of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.
Minnesota defends N.D. laws on drug-benefit companies State AG Ellison says states have the right to regulate pharmacy-benefit companies. July 1, 2021 5:26pm Text size Copy shortlink:
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said in a court filing Thursday that states have a fundamental right to regulate prescription-drug middlemen firms called pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), which control a growing share of the $370 billion-plus retail U.S. prescription drug market. PBMs have exploited decades of lax or non-existent regulation to become a massive part of the prescription-medication industry, says a filing from Ellison s office in a case involving a regulatory dispute in North Dakota before the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. State regulation is necessary to curb PBM practices that harm pharmacies, consumers and states.

Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka, R-East Gull Lake, is mulling a run for governor during the 2022 midterms, a high-stakes race that could be shaped by powerful forces, both past and present.
And, if he were to win, it would mark a comeback for a party that’s failed to win statewide seats in more than a decade. Judging by recent history, the Republicans’ track record in statewide elections in Minnesota haven’t been confidence-building, to say the least.
