Van Oord secures another contract in the UK May 7, 2021, by Zlatan Hrvacevic
Van Oord has just announced that the company is continuing its involvement in the Aberdeen South Harbour expansion project in the United Kingdom.
End of April, Aberdeen Harbour Board awarded another contract to Van Oord, this time for the South Breakwater project.
The company has been involved in the Aberdeen scheme since 2017 and, most recently, successfully delivered critical rock dredging and revetment construction works.
When complete, the over 500-metres-long breakwater will protect the new port facilities from a one-in-300-year storm. Backhoe dredger Razende Bol, side-stone dumping vessel HAM 602 and split hopper barge Johannis de Rijke are part of the equipment to be deployed. Work on site will start imminently, reported Van Oord.

Aberdeen Harbour Board has awarded two new contracts for the construction of the South Breakwater and Crown Wall, with a total value of £60 million (USD 83,5 million)
Dutch marine and offshore contractor Van Oord will act as the principal contractor for the 550-meter-long South Breakwater, and Scottish-based construction firm Beattie FRC will build the concrete Crown Wall along the length of the North Breakwater.
Both structures will provide critical protection for vessels and operations within the Harbour expansion, ultimately protecting the port from a one-in-300-year storm. Work on site will start imminently, Aberdeen Harbour said Friday.

On Friday, Mayor Tommy Battle started a series of meetings to discuss policing with protesters and community activists. This comes after the Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council (HPCAC) released a 248-page report on the protests this past June.
WAAY 31 spent Friday at City Hall, working to learn what comes next in the process.
A spokeswoman for the city confirmed the mayor has meetings scheduled, but didn t share when they were happening or who they were with. So, WAAY 31 reached out to three groups organizing Friday night s protest in Big Spring Park. They said it was the first time they were hearing about any meetings with the mayor.
