Three-peat: Campbell Law wins regional ABA Client Counseling championship | News

February 8, 2021 RALEIGH – Campbell Law advocates have earned yet another regional championship this time at 2021 American Bar Association (ABA) Client Counseling Competition held virtually Feb. 5-6, Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard announced. It is the third year in a row Campbell Law advocates have won this particular regional championship. Campbell Law served as a regional host for the competition that was held virtually via Zoom.  “We hosted nine teams, 27 judges, countless clients and student ambassadors and more Zoom rooms than we care to remember,” said Professor Tony Ghiotto, director of the law school’s award-winning Advocacy Program. “The end result, though, was a stellar competition that allowed students to enhance their ability to counsel clients.”

Campbell Law ranks 4th among best law schools for passing the bar exam | News

February 2, 2021 RALEIGH Campbell Law School is the fourth best overall performer in a new longitudinal study of bar passage recently published by Pepperdine University School of Law’s TaxProf Blog. In the op/ed entitled, “The Best Law Schools For Passing The Bar Exam,” Campbell Law is further acknowledged as the only North Carolina law school in the top 15 and the first-place winner for 2017. “Our goal is to have every student pass the bar exam and we are very intentional about developing our required curriculum with two-thirds focused on areas tested on the bar,” said Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard. “We know we do a good job, but it is nice to have this kind of recognition. If our 2020 bar passage rate of 93 percent would have been included, I think we would have ranked even higher.” 

Campbell Law alumnus, LL M student installed on N C Court of Appeals | News

January 18, 2021 Campbell Law alumnus Judge Jeffery K. Carpenter ’03 and current LL.M. student Judge April C. Wood were among the five judges  formally installed in a virtual ceremony in the courtroom of the North Carolina Court of Appeals on Jan. 14, 2021.  Chief Judge Donna Stroud ’88 administered the oath of office. The swearing-in ceremony was virtual due to COVID-19 precautions. Guests, media, and the public attended the ceremony virtually via Livestream that can be watched at this link. Carpenter joined the Court of Appeals after serving as a superior court judge. He grew up just outside of the town of Morven in Anson County, North Carolina, where he attended and graduated from Anson County Public Schools. Carpenter attended Wingate University before transferring to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he earned a bachelor of arts in political science. Shortly after graduating, he attended and graduated from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol

Lawyers and Leaders program kicks off spring semester on Friday, Jan 22 | News

January 15, 2021 RALEIGH In Fall 2020, Campbell Law’s Advocacy Program launched its Lawyers and Leaders program, designed to develop lawyers who will “lead with purpose.”  “We do so by bringing together leaders from the private sector, government sector, and academia to start a conversation on how we can lead ourselves, how we can lead through advocacy and how we can lead the communities around us,” explained Professor Anthony Ghiotto, director of the advocacy program. “We are excited to continue this effort in the Spring Semester.  We anticipate a number of special events and speakers that address how to lead as citizens, advocates, and attorneys in these increasingly uncertain and problematic times.”
