KITCHENER A Cambridge nursing home is now the site of one of the largest COVID-19 outbreaks that Waterloo Region has seen since the pandemic began. Steps are being taken to control the outbreak at Cambridge Country Manor long-term care home with the ongoing help of Cambridge Memorial Hospital. The facility has reported 114 cases since the outbreak was declared on Dec. 8: 60 in residents and 54 in staff. Ten people have died of COVID-19 there, including seven reported on Wednesday and another on Thursday. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families, said hospital president and CEO Patrick Gaskin. Region of Waterloo Public Health identified the victims as a man in his 70s, three men in their 80s, two women in their 90s and a woman in her 100s.

On Thursday, Waterloo region reported a single-day record high of 100 new COVID-19 cases and three more deaths.
As of Christmas Eve, there were a total of 5,387 cases and 158 deaths in the region since the pandemic began.
As of Wednesday, nine people had died from the infection. Sixty people who live in the home and 54 staff had tested positive since the outbreak was declared earlier this month.

KITCHENER Public health officials reported eight new COVID-19 deaths in Waterloo Region on Wednesday. According to the region s online COVID-19 dashboard, that s the highest number of deaths in a single day since the first wave of the pandemic. The dashboard shows that the death toll at Cambridge Country Manor LTC rose from two to nine. In an email to CTV Kitchener, public health officials confirmed that seven of the deaths were among the long-term care home s residents. Cambridge Memorial Hospital took over management of the care home last week. The ages of the deceased ranged from the 70s to the 100s. In each case, public health officials said that COVID-19 contributed to the person s death but was not the underlying cause.
