Siobhan Baillie The Stroud MP s weekly column. The Prime Minister came to Stroud on Monday to launch the Government’s Mortgage Guarantee Scheme that will allow home buyers to get on the property ladder with only a 5 per cent deposit. Boris spent several hours at the Great Oldbury housing development in Stonehouse talking with homeowners and construction workers and he was on great form. The idea of the scheme is for the government to offer lenders the guarantee they need to provide mortgages that cover the other 95 per cent, subject to the usual affordability checks. The scheme is available lenders such as Lloyds, Santander, Barclays, HSBC and NatWest. Virgin Money will also join the scheme next month.
