Doctor Dolittle is a gross-out movie, yes, and it s going to be criticized by those who can t believe it got a PG-13 rating. Like Eddie Murphy s previous film, The Nutty Professor, it has a lot of jokes about bodily functions. It breaks some new ground, with a scene where the Murphy character gives the kiss of life to a rat, and when a pigeon makes a low-level bombing run at Oliver Platt s nostrils. And of course there s the scene where the Murphy character, as a little boy, learns from his dog why dogs sniff each other s behinds, and then tries the same tactic in checking out the new school principal.
Three area rescue organizations lead with steadfast heart and hope
Home on Thanksgiving nearly 22 years ago, Jennifer Smith refused to cook dinner until someone in her family helped her build a website for a nonprofit she was starting. Hunger set in. The website went up. By the time the turkey came out of the oven, the shingle for Noah’s Arks Rescue was digitally hung.

Like most animal rescues, Noah’s Arks was built by Smith’s fierce passion for animals. Her entire life she’s rescued strays from the sides of roads or taken in dogs nobody wanted.
The Seal Beach Police Department is ringing in the New Year by promoting four officers to the ranks of corporal, sergeant, and lieutenant.
In September of 2020, the Seal Beach City Council approved a comprehensive Police Department Reorganization Plan. With the approval of this plan, the Seal Beach Police Department was approved to promote two police sergeants to the rank of lieutenant. This restructuring will ensure that patrol officers, including patrol sergeants, will remain in the field and be available to respond to emergencies in the community. The newly promoted lieutenants will assume much of the administrative works that is required of a modern, professional law enforcement agency. As a result of the lieutenant promotion, this also created a vacancy for a sergeant and corporal.
