95-98 / 101
After an up-and-down freshman year at Arkansas, Rutledge transferred to Houston-area junior college powerhouse San Jacinto and immediately looked like a first-round pick. He had trouble getting on the mound in Fayetteville in part due to his command, which still isn’t great. Rutledge often worked 96-100 at San Jac, mixing in a comfortably-plus slider and a curveball that was closer to average. He would occasionally flash a good changeup, too, but that pitch was a distant fourth offering at the time. That’s not really the case anymore, as Rutledge has hit the breaks on his curveball and spent most of 2020 focusing on his changeup, which had good fade and tailing action during spring training this year.

The 1991 Penn grad has returned to Wheeler and has been hired as the Bearcats new football coach. I started my career at Penn (in 1996) and won a (Class 5A) state title. I should ve retired then, Kania said, laughing. I ve kind of worked my way around, but I ve enjoyed every second if it.

Andrew Vaughn in left field Saturday. (Daryl Van Schouwen)
BOSTON Rookie Andrew Vaughn would never have guessed his eighth major league start would go down backed up to the Green Monster at Fenway Park, but there he was Saturday, a first baseman converted to left field just a few weeks ago playing one of the trickiest outfield spots in the game.
“I mean, it’s amazing,” Vaughn said before the game. “This field is historic.”
Vaughn took a tour of the field when he played in the Cape Cod League, so he had seen it up close. But not with an outfielder’s glove on his left hand.
Highland s coach knew his team was dead in the water â until it wasn t. I was getting ready to tell them, You can t beat good teams like Crown Point and not execute, Bogner said. . Then all of a sudden we started chipping away, and when our last guy got hit (by a pitch) and we ended up winning on a walk off, the guys ran onto the field. I was just yelling, Mask up! Mask up!
Bogner, who is in his eighth year at the helm, was so concerned with his team s COVID-19 safety protocols that it took a moment for the Trojans victory to sink in. Highland rallied to earn a 5-4 home win over Crown Point in eight innings on April 3, erasing a 4-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh.
