Sherri Coale’s Oklahoma basketball team again was left out of the postseason.
After finishing with a loss to Friday night Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Tournament to fall to 12-12 on the season, Coale said “I’m an optimist” about getting an NCAA Tournament bid. But that fell through Monday when the bracket was announced, and later Monday night, the WNIT field was revealed and OU was not among the 32 participants.
The Sooners played much of the season with just six players and seldom had no more than seven. Yet after starting 1-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play, OU won four of its last five games and six of its last eight to finish with its best record in three years and a 9-9 record in Big 12 play.

Natasha Mack made the second of two free throws to tie the game at 71 with 1:28 left and both teams missed on opportunities in the final minute. The Cowgirls pulled away with a 9-0 run in overtime and finished the game making 12 of their last 18 shots.
Mack had 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting and grabbed 16 rebounds. Lauren Fields added 12 points, Kassidy De Lapp scored 11 and Taylen Collins had 10.
Oklahoma had 8-0 and 9-0 runs in the second quarter to lead by as many as 15 points and go into halftime with a 36-23 lead.
Taylor Robertson had 24 points and Williams scored 22 for the Sooners, who are on the bubble for an NCAA Tournament selection on Monday. Gabby Gregory added 14 points and Skylar Vann scored 11.

Madi Williams was named first-team All-Big 12 Conference on Wednesday.
Williams, a 6-foot junior from Fort Worth, leads the Sooners at 19.9 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game this season while shooting 49.5 percent from the field.

Williams has helped guide OU to a 12-11 record (9-9 in Big 12 play) with remarkable consistency. In conference-only games, she averages 19.8 points and 5.2 rebounds and shoots .489.
Williams set the school scoring record this season when she poured in 45 points, breaking the OU mark of 43 set by Courtney Paris. It remains the fourth-highest figure in women s college basketball this season.

Taylor Robertson 22 as Oklahoma beat Kansas State 90-81 in the Sooners’ season finale Sunday at Lloyd Noble Center.
OU finished the regular season with a winning record (12-11 overall, 9-8 Big 12 Conference) despite playing more than half their games with just six or seven available players during a pandemic.
