Changes occurring at downtown Canton restaurants

CANTON – Some big changes are coming to the downtown dining scene. A new restaurant is opening. A longtime eatery is relocating. And two other local favorites are reopening under new management. Jerzee s Cafe in Centennial Plaza should open by the end of this month. Owner Chris Maggiore said he s planning a soft opening before the NFL Draft begins April 29. All that remains are some final touches to the cafe s appearance, technology and staffing. We want to open and do it right, Maggiore said. The restaurant at 330 Court Ave. NW will have a scaled-down Jerzee s All American Sports Grille menu: burgers, wraps, salads, boxed lunches, pizzas and flatbreads. It also will feature Starbucks coffee and tea beverages and a small selection from Nothing Bundt Cakes.

According to county records, Pilgrim REO bought the properties in January 2015. The 30 parcels were among 51 that transferred to Pilgrim REO from CapCar Realty 1, according to paperwork filed with the Stark County Recorder s office. The filing shows Pilgrim REO and CapCar Realty 1 had the same address in Boston.

New shopping plaza, gas station under construction in Jackson Township

JACKSON TWP.  Changes are underway to businesses at the corner of Wales Avenue NW and Portage Street NW. A plaza is being remodeled on the northwest corner of the intersection. Across Portage Street, on the southwest corner, a Circle K convenience store is being replaced and gasoline pumps will be added. The Stark County Regional Planning Commission gave conditional approval earlier this month to changes being made at the shopping plaza. Elite Development Tallmadge Twelve will build two additions to the plaza, one 4,080 square feet and a second 2,400 square feet. Developers had to demolish parts of the existing building and rebuild to ensure structural safety, Keith Calvert, a representative for the owner, told the commission.
