Goodbye bridge to nowhere | News, Sports, Jobs

YOUNGSTOWN The city’s board of control approved agreements with the Ohio Department of Transportation for two projects: demolition of the Crescent Street Bridge, and repaving work to portions of Canfield Road and Market Street. The demolition of the 78-foot steel girder Crescent Street Bridge over an abandoned railroad line, just west of West Rayen Avenue, should start this spring and be done in the summer, Charles Shasho, deputy director of public works, said after the Thursday board meeting. “It’s a bridge to nowhere,” he said. “It’s not needed anymore and it’s in poor shape. It needs to be repaired, but that would be a waste of money. Instead, we’re going to make it a roadway, which is easier to maintain.”
