Until the mid-20th century, many areas in the forbidding terrain of the vast jungles and high mountains that dominatemainland Papua New Guinea (PNG) were accessible only by walking for days or weeks on foot, employing many people to carry goods, often in torrential rain. Yet, the Lord says, “Go.”
In 1946, Len Barnard had a vision of becoming a medical missionary in PNG. He had been stationed there during World War II as a medical orderly. A desire was born in Len’s heart to bring aircraft and missionaries together for mercy flights to the isolated people in that region. In Washington’s respectable circles, Michael T. Flynn, the former national security adviser, is a discredited and dishonored ex-general, a once-esteemed military intelligence officer who went off the rails ideologically and then was fired a mere 24 days into the Trump administration for lying to the F.B.I. about contacts with the Russian ambassador.

In February 1941 the 2nd Marine Division was activated at a parade and review at at Camp Elliott, the Marine Corps Base in San Diego. During World War II some 60,000 Marines with the 2nd Division saw action in the Pacific.

Such was the first parade of the Second Marine Division, which passed in review at the Marine base on Barnett Ave. yesterday, a few minutes after the orders were read creating a complete marine division for the first time in the corps’ 165 years of existence.
