kstephens@altoonamirror.com HOLLIDAYSBURG Witnesses told a Blair County jury Friday that Paul Aaron Ross wore the type of athletic shoe linked to footprints found in an area of Canoe Creek State Park where Tina S. Ross, the last person to be seen with the 26-year-old Miller, went on trial this week in Blair County Court, charged with first-degree murder and related sexual assault offenses. Testimony, which resumes Monday, is expected to extend through next week. “The pace of the trial is moving along,” President Judge Elizabeth Doyle said Friday in court before dismissing the jury for the weekend.

Ross HOLLIDAYSBURG The review of potential jurors to hear first-degree murder and related charges against a Hollidaysburg area man progressed slowly Wednesday and into the evening hours at the Blair County Courthouse. “As you’ve figured out, we’re not just picking 12 jurors out of a hat,” defense attorney Thomas M. Dickey told a prospective juror who had already answered questions for about a half hour. Miller of Hollidaysburg in 2004.

Potential jurors will report today and Tuesday to complete lengthy questionnaires about themselves, their knowledge of the case and a willingness to consider the death penalty in case of a first-degree murder conviction. Jurors returning Wednesday and Thursday will be subject to additional questioning aimed at seating an impartial panel of 12 jurors and at least four alternates. In preparation for this week’s proceedings and Ross’ trial starting April 12, President Judge Elizabeth Doyle issued an order with rules addressing courtroom seating and behavior.
