Teachers under the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) issued a seven-day strike notice to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), on Thursday, June 3.
KUPPET Secretary-General Akelo Misori - while speaking at a press conference in Nairobi - stated that they will down their tools if the employer fails to raise teachers salaries and offer them promotions.
The decision to revolt was occasioned by TSC s delay to negotiate and implement the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), with the current one set to expire in July 2021. Teachers expect nothing other than a salary review this year. We have gathered that TSC was advised by the Salaries Remuneration Commission (SRC), but TSC has not shared the advisory with us, Misori warned.

Health workers’ unions in Homa Bay have accused Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) of interfering with health services at the County Referral Hospital.
The County Assembly recently adopted a report that the acting Chief Executive Officer of the hospital Peter Ogolla be removed to pave way for the reinstatement of the former CEO Dr Lilian Kocholla who was recently shown the door.
Dr Kocholla was sent on compulsory leave because of alleged poor management which had put the hospital in a deplorable state.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion’s misery continued yesterday after teachers’ representatives from Rift Valley endorsed Collins Oyuu to challenge him in the upcoming union polls.
Teachers from 21 out of the 25 branches in the region unanimously backed Mr Oyuu, currently Knut’s acting national chairman for the secretary-general post in next month’s Special Delegates Conference where new official will be elected.
Early this month, a Nairobi Employment and Labour Relations court dismissed Sossion’s attempt to save his position as a teacher after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) deregistered him.
